Small Ewer in the Shape
of a Bird, Painted in Brown
and Green
Changsha Ware
T'ang Dynasty
(A.D. 618-906)
Height 9.7cm
This ewer has an
exquisitely endearing
shape. In addition to
brown mottle and green
painted decor, the full
rounded body is also
decorated on both sides
with mold-stamped wings,
while the handle area is
fashioned to resemble a
tail. The cover is stamped
with applique decor, and
the flat base is unglazed.
